Area rugs
Often, a room with hard surface flooring isn't considered complete until the right rug is somewhere in the middle of it. This is where the feet find solace in the cooler months, and is typically what ties together the entire room décor. If you are shopping for area rugs, we always recommend that you bring paint swatches, a sofa pillow, a curtain, or whatever elements comprise a representation of the room you are trying to accentuate.
But even if you don't get it right, within 3 days of your purchase, Garvey’s will return any rug whatever the reason. We realize that sometimes it looks different at home than it did in our showrooms, mostly due to lighting. If you find that a rug doesn't work the way you thought it would, no problem. We're with you until you're 100% happy with your purchase.

Tips for selecting a rug for your home:
- Visualize the desired total look of the room. Do you want a room that’s uncluttered and monotone or a room rich with colors or textures? If you start with a totally empty room, choose a rug, then paint or paper the walls in colors found in the rug.
- Remember, the rug has to fit the room – in more ways than one. Consider how the room is used, how much traffic the area gets and who will view it under what light. For high-traffic areas such as hallways and foyers, you may want a durable, patterned rug.
- Size up the size of the room and the area you want to cover. The most common area rug sizes are 4-by-6 and 6-by-9 feet. They work well under a coffee table. An 8-by-11-foot rug or larger can cover an entire room. Smaller area and scatter rugs can be ideal for adorning smaller spaces-a hearth, a bedside, and the area in front of a kitchen sink-with a splash of color and warmth.
- A rug with a bold, overall design can be the focal point of a room with a chair and sofa in solid or subdued patterns.
- Light colored rugs make a room look more spacious, and deeper colors lend coziness to a room.
- Don’t be boxed in by the idea of getting a rectangular rug. A circular or octagonal-shaped floor covering can add flair.

Regular vacuuming will help rugs retain their beauty and will extend the life of the rug.
Clean food and beverage spills immediately by removing the excess material gently with a spoon and then use a solution of clear, non-bleach dishwashing detergent (1/4 tsp detergent to 32 oz water). Gently agitate the pile and blot with white paper towels until no transfer of the spill or color. Rinse by spraying with clean water and blot dry. To help the area dry faster try placing a thick stack of white paper towels on the area and then put a smooth bottomed casserole dish on top. Use a milk jug filled with water or some other heavy object in the dish. You can switch out stacks of paper towels until there is no more moisture present. Professional carpet cleaning is recommended using the hot water extraction method. Do not dry clean your Rugs and or use bleach.
